The Green Providers Directory is a not-for-profit directory, founded by Dr Gary Robertshaw in 2005, whose aim is to help you search for green, organic, fair trade and ethical suppliers of everyday products and services.
Suppliers are listed in easy-to-use sections, with a brief description of what they provide. The directory is free to use and you do not have to register with us. We provide links to a range of renewable energy suppliers, fair trade clothing, health and beauty products, energy saving devices, ethical gifts, organic wines and much more. We also provide news and updates on environmental issues and related topics.
Why use us?
We individually vet all the companies listed in our directory so you can be sure of their ethical and eco-friendly credentials. Most of the products in The Green Providers Directory can be bought on-line and delivered directly to your door, saving you time and effort, whilst cutting down on traffic congestion.
We are listed in The Guardian and Channel 4's environmental sections and on green.tv, a United Nations Environmental Programme, and we are members of Ethical Junction. We also have a number of partnerships and website links with leading fair trade sites such as Edun, a socially conscious clothing company launched by Ali Hewson and Bono with New York clothing designer Rogan Gregory. Read more testimonials here.
In addition, we have a number of links with schools and universities, including Cambridge University, Bradford University and the University of Huddersfield, providing articles and information on green issues and sustainable living.
More about us
The Green Providers Directory was launched in 2005 with the objective of encouraging more people to use eco-friendly, fair trade, ethical and organic goods and services. The directory is a not-for-profit concern run out of a genuine commitment to protecting the environment and building a fairer world.
Whilst there are many green sites that discuss the problems of ecological damage and climate change, 'eco-this', 'green-that' etc..we felt that they failed to engage mainstream consumers, which we believe is necessary to facilitate change on a wider scale. Our www.search-for-me.co.uk domain name was chosen to appeal to the wider population because we believe that sustainable living should be for the masses and not the few.
The premise of the directory is consumer power. That is, if large numbers of people can be better informed and convinced of the ecological dangers we face, then their combined demand for greener goods and services will cause a paradigm shift in buying behaviour whilst forcing traditional companies to adopt policies that reduce harm to the environment.
Each company listed in the directory has been vetted against their stated ethical policy and commitment to protecting the environment. We have been keen to avoid associations with 'pseudo-green' national corporations who have cynically exploited growing environmental concerns to jump on the green bandwagon, whilst continuing to pursue unsustainable business practices.
The Green Providers Directory is privately owned and not profit making so there is no requirement to affiliate with any particular company – it is completely unbiased and independent. The advice given is impartial and there is no active selling.
As well as providing a comprehensive search directory of fair trade, ethical and green products and services we're also heavily involved in promoting the ethos of sustainable living.
For example, we write articles for many different green blogs and publications. We provide support for new launches such as Eden TV and Ecotube, and help to promote causes such as Population Matters. We are involved in campaigning on a wide range of green issues and we actively try to encourage people to shop from sustainable sources, generating new customers for green companies and causes.
